Mary Rork-Watson exhibits Belles, Blocks and Balls

Mary Rork-Watson lives and creates in Iowa, home to the best state fair in the world.

Mary’s art has been part of national juried exhibits and has been published in Somerset Studio magazine.

Belles, Blocks and Balls features box assemblages motivated by the power of story telling combined with the process of creating within the confines of the box form. Her works include castoffs and forgotten objects and photos, found objects and vintage images, their particular combinations and arrangements inspired by reflections about the objects themselves, or stories of places familiar and beloved, such as home and garden.

By their nature, box works lend themselves to multiple possible interpretations and are enriched by viewers bringing their own personal histories and stories into the viewing experience. Rork-Watson understands the credibility that the veneer of time can add to objects. Her works tend to emphasize individual objects that have an obvious history of their own, although the story behind the works may be a contemporary one.
